Since 2007, the German Young Geomorphologists organize annual workshops in order to support networking amongst early career geomorphology enthusiasts. The meetings provide a platform for open discussions on a wide range of problems that might have emerged within a particular research project.
Cause of pandemic reasons, our plans and activities changed for this year, too. We thought about and examined how and whether we could let happen a young geomorphologist meeting this year. Due to the uncertain situation and financial risks we will also move into the virtual space with two events and we invite everyone to participate.
(1) Evening event (guided questionary) on 28.09.2020 – 19:00 at this year’s AK Annual Meeting.
Title: Pandemics vs. Academia – How do you deal with teaching / field work in the current situation?
We plan a guided questionary and an informal discussion.
(2) Digital Online Meeting at 29. and 30.10.2020:
Thursday 29.10.2020 (afternoon)
14:00 – 16:30 Scientific contributions by YG’s (talk, poster, spotlight discussion)
17:00 – 19:00 Open debate about scientific work-life balance with Dr. M. Fuchs (Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf & Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology) and Dr. V. Nottebaum (formerly RWTH Aachen University · Chair of Physical Geography and Geoecology)
08:00 – 12:00 Scientific contributions by YG / Crowd solving of social challenges in academia
13:00 – 18:00 Workshop (separately organized by D. Post): Graphical design of scientific content
Please register and opt for one of the 3 formats to discuss your work with other Young Geomorphologists. Each contribution will be given 15 min. time and will be presented as a talk, digital poster or spotlight (5 min. short introduction of a problem you are facing, 10 mins. of “crowd-solving”).
Please register by 4.10.2020 using our registration form, so that we can organize the number of zoom licenses.
We would be happy if you have time for both events and if we meet again this year at least online.
Please also feel free to register with our mailing list (email to email@example.com) to receive updates on the meeting in June and on additional activities of the Young Geomorphologists!
