The Faculty of Geosciences and Geography of the Georg-August Universität Göttingen seeks to fill a

Professorship (W2) in Landscape Geoscience

at the earliest possible date.

The main research field of the professorship will be the shaping of the landscape by earth surface processes. It shall combine investigations of active geomorphological processes with the analysis of Pleistocene and Holocene archives. At least one spatial focus shall be on regions outside high-mountain regions, e.g., on coastal areas, fluvial systems, or low-mountain regions. The professorship shall substantially strengthen the interlinkage between Geosciences and Physical Geography within the Faculty. In addition, research objectives providing links to Human Geography are welcome, such as Geohazards (e.g., through slope processes and flooding) and Climate Change Impact. The ideal candidate uses a wide spectrum of methods, ranging from field investigation to numerical modelling, preferably in combination with innovative analytical techniques.

We seek for an inventive personality who enjoys crossing disciplinary boundaries, actively looks for collaborations and joins in the networking inside and outside the faculty. The Geosciences and Geography in Göttingen offer an attractive infrastructure with respect to staff and analytical equipment at one of the leading locations in Geosciences in Germany.

The teaching related to this professorship will be mainly in the study programs in Geography (BSc, BA, MSc, MEd). In addition, the new professor will be involved in the study programs BSc Ecosystem Management and BSc/MSc Geosciences, as well as in the PhD programs Geoscience and Geography.

Requirements include proficiency in excellent research-oriented teaching, an outstanding and internationally visible publication record, proven raising of third-party funds, and a habilitation or a qualification equivalent to a habilitation.

The conditions of employment are described in § 25 of the Higher Education Law of Lower Saxony. As a Public Law Foundation, the University of Göttingen has the right to appoint professors. Details will be explained upon request.
